UP Fair 2012! :)
7 days.
Because I feel like blogging for the first time.:)
2012.So many things happened. And I believe that there’s just a lot more to come.I have so many plans in life, that sometimes I really don’t know what’s going to take place and what’s going to remain as mere fantasies. January and February were relatively awesome months.
- New Year Celebration with Mom and Sis
- Bataan STS Fieldtrip (From planning up to the last minute of the trip) - this was just one unforgettable day. Those photos will speak for itself. I’ve been to that place when I was in High School, but man, this one is very different. The feelings were incomparable.Really.
- Mount Banahaw Trekking - I thank my mom for convincing me to join this tour. I’ve tried and done so many challenging things for the first time. I never thought of myself going up and down a 217 steps-stairs barefooted to reach a very wonderful waterfalls. I also didn’t imagine that I will be able to pass two too-narrow-to-describe caves in one day.And lastly, who would have thought that I will be able to (almost) reach the summit of the mountain without sustaining any injury while I walked without any shoe/ slipper on? I know that this may be a simple trip for those adventurous and challenge seeking persons, but for me, those were accomplishments that I will tell my even to my furture grandchildren when the time comes.
- AOF- Huh.Four days of being together. “KAS gave me the chance to at least view my future life …” This was just the best fieldwork that I’ve done so far.Although it was so tiring, I know for a fact that I was able to do a good video and paper because of my dear subject.
- Wishes in the sky- First time fly a lantern and make a wish. Yes, I’m also overjoyed by this event. :)
- UPM Elections- I was able to prove that I am not a jinx when it comes to supporting a particular candidate during an election.(haha) I was happy on my tasks during the campaign and thank God that I am still happy during the announcement of results.
- I’M WAITING AND EXPECTING FOR MORE EVENTS TO FOLLOW.haha.HI MARCH.:))
Surely happiness comes in handy when I’m with this fellah.:”)
INNISFREE VILLAGE.
Friday our class will be touring a really really amazing residential community, Innisfree Village.
Innisfree is basically an OTs dream paradise. It’s a huge 550 acre stretch of land in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Absolutely gorgeous. The village is made up of adults with intellectual disabilities (ID), and provides a lifesharing home and work environment to encourage meaningful and challenging lifestyles. It’s also a model therapeutic environment for people with ID, emphasizing empowerment, interdependence, and mutual respect of all community members.
The village is different in that their lifesharing mission means residents and their volunteer caregivers live as families in the community’s 15 houses. Those with ID are referred to as “co-workers.” The residents spend their days in various work stations such as the bakery (where they bake and sell bread for the local farmer’s markets), community kitchen, farm, free school, herb garden, vegetable garden, weaver, and woodshop (they see their crafts online and at local art shows).
The village sounds so amazing, I can’t wait to see it. And they are always looking for volunteers (they are in desperate need of people with OT knowledge since they don’t have one working there, and they only have one physical therapist on staff!) I definitely would have done this if I had known about it before grad school started up. One of my professors spent a year working there and absolutely loved it. If anyone is looking for an incredibly worthwhile (year long) experience working/volunteering at the village, here is the link
It’s been a while since I updated.:) Just wanna share this awesome pics from our Bataan Trip.:)
